In late January 2026, ChatGPT finally announced that they’re going to start running ads and they opened up the doors with a $1 million buy in. So they are only courting the large companies at this point. So far the ads that we are seeing online are for extended Expedia, Walmart, the big guys.

We’re going to go through these numbers to see how they match up to spending money on Google Ads. Let’s get started.

So the math first, it’s a high cost, low transparency model. At this point. It’s not like Google Ads spend $10 and you can get some data.

You’re spending a million dollars. And the rumor is that the cost per thousand views to advertise on ChatGPT at this point is $60, 60 bucks for 1000 views.

And the problem is there’s no transparency, there is no conversion tracking. So it is like spending money on a Super bowl ad.

You really don’t know if you should be spending those millions of dollars or not. And how do you trap on the back end if it’s actually working?

Now let’s talk about the intent gap and the cost per lead. Dig a little deeper into that first. The intent gap.

Google is built on active demand like their low bottom of funnel type searches, like payroll software for small businesses or top orthodontist near me.

You can get in front of those people if you’re selling those types of products or services right when they’re ready to go where ChatGPT is way more conversational and top of funnel.

When you’re looking at a $60 cost per thousand views on ChatGPT, compare that to Google right now.

This is across all industries, but right now the industry benchmark per lead is $70 on Google. So we’re talking about a $70 high intent lead on Google versus $60 for a thousand people that are top of funnel and doing their research.

The math is super simple. Google is still your ticket for high intent leads. So don’t let the ChatGPT now has ads.

Let’s jump on the bandwagon headlines. Don’t let that distract you. For small and medium sized businesses, Google Ads is still scalable and measurable online channel to spend your money.

And there’s no cover charge to get in. You can get in with 10 bucks, 20 bucks, whatever you want to spend you can get in there.

And right now the numbers speak for themselves. For every $1 across the board, all advertisers. For every $1 that is spent, $2 is returned for the advertiser. That is the math that we want to follow.

So Here are your three takeaways for this video.

Number one, there is zero barrier to entry for Google. You can spend a $10 versus ChatGPT. You have to spend a million to get started.

Number two active intent buying versus browsing. You’re going to get people on Google Ads at the bottom of the funnel when they’re ready to go, ready to be a customer versus conversational and research on ChatGPT.

And number three transparency. You can drill down into the keyword level on Google to see what is converting and what isn’t on ChatGPT. It is a black box at this point.

So the results are in. You spend a dollar on Google, you get $2 back. Stick to the data, ignore the hype.
